Poetry is the expression in words –
Of our curious existence.
Songwriting is the expression in words of emotions, events, and experiences.
I find that poetry and songwriting converge. What came first, the poem or songwriting? Some will tell you that it was the poem. On a personal note, it was the poem for me that gave me the background for songwriting.
To be real is to exist. To acknowledge that I am living here in this world. I believe I have value and can offer something meaningful to someone or something that gives my existence purpose. Each day, I breathe the air into my lungs and feel the wind against my face. I need to exist and know that I have a place in the world we live in. The state of living is the truth of my existence.
Poetry is a moment in time that is captured in words. A reflection, an image, a story about our curious existence that pulls at the very core of our being.
