Shepherd of Love is a song about the shepherd taking care of a herd of sheep up in the hills. Sheep are guided by a shepherd to find green pastures to feed upon and rest. The voice of the shepherd is one of love that transcends time, for He will bring peace to your soul. The song depicts the scripture of John chapter ten, verse eleven, which states, “I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.” It is Jesus who is the good shepherd, and He gave his life for all of humanity.
I wrote this song after I had Lipoma surgery. I was not certain that I would be able to play the guitar again since the lipoma affected the use of my left arm. The left arm is used to hold down the strings on the guitar. I did not have the strength to hold down the chord progression on the guitar. However, thank the Lord, I received complete recovery and usage of my left arm to continue to play the guitar again.
The song was created on a 61-key digital keyboard known as the Yamaha PSR-520. This rare vintage keyboard is amazing and was popular among amateur and professional musicians alike. This fun synthesizer has a built-in sequencer that allows one to record and playback their compositions. The MIDI interface allows one to connect to the computer and other MIDI devices.
This song is a testament of this keyboard’s functionality since the song was created on this keyboard with the exception of the vocals and the Takamine guitar.
